Exploring artsy Ranong – Thailand

Ranong - Reposition art community center

I’m happy to run in to Nat, a Thai guy who has a very chilled out appearance. But in Bangkok Nat worked successfully for years as a visual artist, dj and he runs a bar and record label in Bangkok.

Three years ago, he decided his lifestyle in Bangkok did not fulfill him any more and he wants to contribute to something bigger, more meaningful. Thus he moved back to his native town Ranong. There he worked on renovating a 5 story building into an artist & community center.

The aim is to have national and international artists stay in the residency while they work on community related art projects and give workshops.

When I arrive in the soon to open Reposition artist community center, I’m eager to contribute. Together with one of my Dutch friends and Nat we create a piece of wall art, as well as a 3 meter long piece with a map of Ranong city center and all the interesting places marked.

While we work, Nat serves us delicious local Robusta roast coffee, homemade cashew-banana milk and other delicious bites. In between work we make music on the balcony and explore Ranong and surroundings and discover that it indeed has a lot more to offer than the ferry to Koh Phayam 🙂 Thanks Nat for sharing your creative talents and passion with us!
