My first words of Khmer – Cambodia

Illustrated travel blog Cambodia Khmer language

After the first visit to Cambodia in February/March, I’m back now for 3 months. I got invited to do art work for the on the remote and secluded Lonely Beach resort (Koh Rong island).

Getting to spend a lot of time in Cambodia allowed me to pick up on some Khmer language. I’ve always had a great interest in learning new languages. Lucky for me that I have found such lovely teachers in our kitchen staff :)) in exchange I teach them all the words in English.

Being immersed in another culture is the very best way to learn its language. I was told once “If you are not afraid to ask for help, and don’t mind looking foolish, people will gladly help you to learn their language.” That came in very handy when I was traveling (and the wild gestures I made to explain what I was trying to say, always got a good laugh!) Love you Lil.
